In partnership with AGC of Colorado, we offer you this upcoming three-unit series Superintendent Training Bootcamp held in a live-virtual format. In this series, participants will learn about scheduling considerations for construction as well as critical building methodologies, structural and building envelope systems, and major scopes of building systems, including HVACS, plumbing and MEP.
The Essentials of Field Management / Superintendent Bootcamp is designed to expand the knowledge of construction professionals who are looking to grow in their career. Ideal candidates for this course include field and project engineers, forepersons, assistant superintendents and anyone looking to gain a thorough understanding of the commercial construction building process. Sessions include a deep dive into building a project from the ground up.
Unit 1: Sitework and Foundations
Sept 20, 22, 27, 29, Oct 4
In this unit, students will learn about scheduling considerations for construction as well as critical building methodologies and requirements. There is also a significant focus on sitework and foundations.
Session 1: Project Set-Up, Surveying & Layout, September 20 Project Set-upThis session describes the initial setup of a project and the people involved. Additionally, students will learn about site utilization and what is needed up front. By the end of this training, students will have general knowledge about how to successfully set up a project before construction begins. Surveying and Layout MethodologiesStudents will be provided with information to help them understand the difference between the surveying and layout process. This training will outline the step-by-step process for surveying and layouts for projects. Session 2: Project Scheduling, September 22 Project Scheduling This session will provide students with an understanding of the true flow of the sequence using real-life examples. This session will also outline the steps needed to ensure that project scheduling is effectively done for a smoothly run project. Session 3: Excavation / Trenching & Site Utilities, September 27 Excavation & Trenching This session discusses excavation and trenching safety. It describes the role of a competent person, identifies hazards associated with excavations as well as the methods for protecting employees from cave-ins. It also covers employer requirements to protect workers from excavation hazards. Site Utilities This session will introduce students to the basics of site utilities. Site utilities are building systems that usually come under some form of public control. These utilities generally include electricity, gas, water and sewage and communication services. Additionally, they may include irrigation systems, steam lines, medical gases, inert gases and other liquids/gases required for laboratory operations. There are many considerations that must be made when dealing with site utilities. Session 4: Geotechnical Reports, Foundations and Material Handling Solutions, September 29 Geotechnical ReportThis session is designed for those individuals who will utilize Geotechnical Reports as part of their duties and responsibilities. This session provides a thorough understanding of the significance of the Geotech Report. Attendees will gain a working knowledge of how to interpret the report as well as how to implement recommendations made in the report. FoundationsThis session covers different foundation (soil) types. The foundations are chosen by the structural engineer. Material Handling SolutionsTower Cranes, Track Cranes, Forklifts, Hydro Cranes, Material HoistsThis session is designed to teach how to choose which piece of equipment along with which application sizing. Additionally, this course will teach how to size the correct equipment and cranes. Session 5: Shoring Systems, Structural Shortcrete & Blindside Waterproofing, October 4 Shoring SystemsThis session provides an overall explanation of the different types of shoring and best practices of installation of shoring systems. Students will learn about earthwork shoring, the role of the superintendent in shoring, beam and lag systems, battered piers, grout column/soil nails and underpinning. Structural Shotcrete and Blindside Waterproofing This session provides students with a practical understanding of executing structural shotcrete and blindside waterproofing for 0-100 feet underground/below-grade excavation projects. Students will examine a comprehensive overview of the concepts, planning, techniques, and best practices for scheduling, sitework, building methodology, and environmental impact.
Unit 2: Core & Shell
October 13, 18, 20, 25, 27
In this unit, students will learn about contracting considerations, including structural systems, and building envelope systems. Additionally, there is an emphasis on proper weather barrier installations, glass and glazing systems and masonry. An overview of major equipment which includes HVAC, elevators and escalators is also included.
Unit 3: Finishes and Building Systems
November 3, 8, 10, 15, 17
In this unit, students will learn about major scopes of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and MEP as well as fire sprinklers, alarms, and smoke control. Additionally, the intricacies of specialty building types, including healthcare facilities, kitchen and labs will be covered. The installation of tile, stone and flooring finishes will conclude this instruction.
